Sangsook Lee-Chung
I am a first year M.A. student in East Asian Languages and Cultures. I received my B.A. in Journalism from Ewha Woman’s University in Korea in 1983. I started my career as a scriptwriter of TV youth programs for a Korean Broadcasting Station during my senior year in college, and then I had worked as an editor of two journals for more than 6 years. Over the years I have also worked as a freelance translator and published translations of some English language books, while I raised my two loving sons (I have a nice family). As a first year student, I have not yet decided my research focus, but I have persistent interests in Korean women in terms of gender, class, memory, and womanhood in relation to Confucian ideology and social system. Korean women have experienced many changes in their lives in a relatively short period. I think that women hold various and distinct desires, anxieties, conflicts, and hopes. I look forward to delving into these issues.
