I am a doctoral student in anthropology. My research interest is in South Korean early retirees, who involuntarily left their jobs aftermath of the Asian Financial Crisis in 1997, migrating to the Philippines to plan their post-retirement lives. Focusing on the retirees’ continued engagement in diverse labor activities in the Philippines (such as opening small businesses of boarding houses and real estate agencies), my research explores how the retirees negotiate and reconcile their identity as retirees.
